A few months ago, I found an amazing new social media site.
It’s called DaoCloud and it’s a way for people interested in health and wellness to connect (you can check it out here).
I loved DaoCloud so much that I reached out to one of its founders – Eric – to learn more about his mission for the site.
And guess what? Eric is an SCD-er, too!
I’m excited to share Eric’s story with you today – he has distilled everything he’s learned along his healing journey and created an an amazing site that’s going to help thousands of people.
How It All Started
Growing up, I was a normal American kid. I ate a lot of processed carbs and sugar – just like all the other kids in my neighborhood. I was unknowingly following the “Standard American Diet” (SAD).
Then, when I was about 16, I started developing pain after meals. It got bad enough that I went to the doctor.
My doctor assured me I was just having some acid reflux and told me to use Tums after meals. But no matter how many Tums I chewed after I ate, my symptoms kept getting worse.
The Re-Diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease
At 18, I should have been the healthiest I had ever been – but instead, I was losing weight and getting more and more sick. My symptoms had evolved from pain after meals to all types of GI distress: cramps, bloating, gas, diarrhea, etc.
I went back to the gastroenterologist and was diagnosed with something very different from acid reflux: Crohn’s Disease.
My doctor told me I’d need to start medications right away, and I did just that. But instead of getting better, I felt worse – not only were the drugs not helping my Crohn’s symptoms, I was even sicker from all the side effects.
(Now I realize this happens to a lot of people – but at the time I felt alone and confused.)
How I Forged My Own Path to Wellness
I knew that covering up symptoms with more and more prescription drugs wasn’t the solution.
I realized I had to take control of my own health.
Intuitively, I knew that I needed to start by changing my diet. I started with an elimination diet and completely overhauled the way I ate.
It was a big change, but I did it step by step and focused on listening to my body as it started healing itself.
Eventually, I found SCD helped me develop a real intuitive sense for what good nutrients taste like – and now I crave those foods.
I also added in other natural therapies like yoga, meditation and acupuncture.
Today, I have no autoimmune activity thanks to my diet and lifestyle – no medications needed.
But, That Doesn’t Mean It Was Easy
While I’m grateful for all the progress I’ve made and the health I have now, getting well wasn’t an easy, linear process.
Forging my own path to wellness took years, a lot of pain, and trial and error.
I realized that I could have healed much faster, with fewer “detours” if I could have had more information from the start. I wished I could have had a professional to guide me along the path – but I couldn’t figure out who to trust.
There was clearly a problem getting the amazing, life-saving information sites like SCD Lifestyle provide to people who were sick and needed help (like me!).
I Didn’t Want Anyone Else to Struggle
I started imagining the ultimate website for health and wellness – the one I would have wanted when I was healing myself. Nothing like it existed.
I had trusted my intuition to take matters into my own hands with my health… so I decided to trust my intuition one more time and try to make the ultimate site myself.
I completely immersed myself in the worlds of functional medicine, nutrition, chinese medicine, ayurveda, health coaching, etc.
The result? DaoCloud.

DaoCloud is the site I wish existed when I was sick and confused at 18.
My 3 Pillars for Healing
Here’s how I’ve deconstructed the healing process for chronic dis-ease:
1) Self Care – First and foremost, listen to your body. Do you feel pain? That’s your body letting you know that something is getting in the way of the healing process. As opposed to covering up the pain – I listen to what that pain is communicating. In the case of chronic dis-ease, I’ve found that pain is usually my body asking for a change of diet/lifestyle. You cannot outsource self-care; it’s your job.
2) Technology – Technology enables us to learn with each other. Do your homework and avoid the “Google death spiral,” by exploring online communities like DaoCloud and SCD Lifestyle.
3) Community – Seek & embrace supportive communities where healing is the common thread. Consider checking out local yoga studios, wellness centers, workshops, etc. where you’ll meet like-minded people who are also committed to healing.
