Wendy and Nora posted beautiful Ulcerative Colitis Remission stories on our Facebook wall within hours of each other. How does it get any better than that? They were more than happy to share their stories on the blog and I thought, “what better way than to share them together?”
These are real people who took control of their health – real people who used The Specific Carbohydrate Diet to put their UC in remission. I hope they inspire you to take control of your health – because you deserve a symptom-free life.
“In May 2001, my life turned upside down”
I was 37 and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, I didn’t exactly know what it was about. I visited a well-known doctor who specializes in colon diseases and she said there was no cure for UC, I was given sulfasalazine, then mesalazine (PENTASA), the so-called (5-ASA) and budesonide enema (ENTOCORT).
I was feeling worse and worse, I lost weight. I’m 1.70 meters tall and I weighed 48 kilos (5’3.5″ tall/105 pounds).
After 4 years, I knew about the SCD diet, my sister visited the U.S. and bought a book for me Breaking the Vicious Cycle, by Elaine Gottschall.
I started the diet and was very, very strict. After two weeks, I felt much better and I can’t tell you how happy I was…
“I’ll be 49 in April and I’m fantastic. I’M CURED!!!!!!”
I regularly visit my doctor, but for normal checkups. I’m not under any treatment.
In my own experience, I’d tell you start the diet EXTREMELY STRICT so you can feel physically better, then change your life… do something with your emotions, relax, enjoy life, be less strict with yourself.
This is my true story, I’m delighted to share it, because I want to help other people to live better. 🙂
There are two important things I’d like to emphasize the diet REALLY WORKS!!
You’ll see positive results SOON, but you should be very STRICT and it’s not difficult at all.
“I have been struggling with the disease for over 20 years”
I was diagnosed with UC in 1990, while I was serving in the United States Marine Corps. I have been struggling with the disease for over 20 years. I have had flares that have landed me in the hospital and I have had 5-year remissions.
But in the past 6 years I have had a flare every year and they are all severe flares. Of course, I was put on Prednisone and Asacol, then on Remicade. The Remicade worked for less than a year, when I flared again. Not only was it not working, but I started having allergic reactions during the infusions.
“My hair was falling out and I was still sick”
I always felt like crap and was always scared of getting sick because the Remicade was suppressing my immune system. When it stopped working, my GI Doctor wanted to put me on MP6. That was it for me, I was done. Not only did all the medications that I was on give me pericarditis, but my hair was falling out and I was still sick. I figured what was the point of taking all this medication if nothing was making me better, so I stopped taking my meds. At least now even though I was sick I wasn’t poisoning myself anymore.
“I feel like I am 20 again (pre-UC)”
A couple of months went by and my acupuncturist sent me a link for the GAPS diet, which ultimately led me to the SCD. I have been on the diet for 45 days and for the last couple of days I have had normal, bloodless stools, it just amazes me. When I was on the Prednisone, it took months for me to see any results and I had all kinds of bad side effects. But with the SCD, I am healing and all the side effects are good. I feel like I am 20 again (pre-UC). I have energy, I am happy and the diet has become second nature, nothing tastes as good as this feels.
Thanks guys, for helping to make it easier and keeping me updated and motivated.
